Botanical Name: Zamioculcas Zamiifolia Black Queen
Common Names: ZZ plant, Dowon, Black Queen
Add some edge to your space with one of my personal favorites, the Zamioculcas Zamiifolia Black Queen. This striking plant, native to East Africa, with its deep, almost black foliage, is a true showstopper. Starting as a vibrant green, the leaves gradually darken over time, adding a touch of mystery and intrigue to your home. This low-maintenance plant is perfect for even the brownest of thumbs but please be patient as it takes time for these leaves to turn black.
A few tips for keeping your plant happy:
- Settling In: Unpack and unwind! Let your new plant settle in for 24-48 hours before repotting. Allowing it to acclimate will help it thrive in its new home.
- Lighting: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. The ZZ Black Queen can survive in very low light, but will take longer for leaves to blacken.
- Soil: A well-draining soil is perfect. Next level, you can add some perlite for even better drainage.
- Watering: Allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering's. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
